Humanities Edge Faculty Research—Student Internship Opportunity
Thanks to a generous grant from the Mellon Foundation, The Humanities Edge invites faculty in the departments of Art + Art History, English, and History to apply to supervise an undergraduate intern to work with you on a humanities research project. The program provides a focused research experience for the student and research assistance for the professor. The internship is intended to help students build research and writing skills, and to delve deeply into a specific area of humanities research.
Who Can Apply?
This opportunity is open to full-time, FIU faculty in the departments of Art + Art History, English, and History.
Application Deadline: Friday, October 18, 2024
Notification of Proposal Acceptance: Early November 2024
Our process explained
Using this survey form, you are asked to upload a description of your research project that includes expected outcomes and how the project relates to the core goals of the Humanities Edge grant from the Mellon Foundation, including making diversity meaningful in the humanities, illustrating the importance of humanities scholarship, and preparing students for the 21st century workforce. Your application will be evaluated on making meaningful progress toward fulfilling our stated outcomes for student success.
If your proposal is accepted, we will work with you to create a job description for HR. Student internships (aka Student Assistants) are managed through HR.
We anticipate Spring 2025 internships will begin in early to mid-February 2025. We have set aside funds for students in the amount of $18 per hour x 12 hours per week x 12 weeks (a total of 144 hours).
