Summer H.E.ART Program 2019


MDC students who are close to graduating can attend the Summer H.E.ART (history, English, art) Program and become a member of the Humanities Edge cohort for the 2019-2020 season. The Summer H.E.ART program offers a plethora of events to include lectures, workshops, field trips and other activities to prepare you for your entry to Florida International University (FIU). Summer H.E.ART Program 2019 is set for August 5-9th, 2019.

Panther Super Mentors 

Did you enjoy your 2018 Summer H.E.ART week? Want to help guide the new cohort in 2019?

Apply to be a Panther Super Mentor in the Second Annual H.E.ART (History, English and Art) summer bridge program being hosted by FIU in partnership with Miami Dade College (MDC). Six Super Mentors will each earn $500 this summer while guiding students in research projects, writing labs and field trips. The proposed dates of the program are August 5 - 9, 2019.

The Super Mentor spots are open ONLY to members of the 2018 cohort who are now enrolled at FIU and pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in History, English or Art. This is a unique opportunity to give back while helping to guide your peers through the transfer process. Just complete the brief application below.




Transfer Buddies 2019

The Humanities Edge Program at FIU is looking for students to serve as Transfer Buddies to new students transferring from Miami Dade College (MDC).
After a brief training session, Transfer Buddies will be paired with a small group of students for the 2019 academic term, beginning with the Fall 2019 semester. Transfer Buddies will be available to their group to answer basic questions about the campus and life at FIU. They will be required to meet at least once in person with their group and check in regularly by text. At the end of the academic year, students and Transfer Buddies will evaluate the program.
Open to all FIU students who have transferred from MDC. Transfer Buddies will receive a small stipend and a certificate of service. This is a unique opportunity to give back while helping to guide your peers through the transfer process. 



Internships and Fellowships

Are you ready to gain hands-on work experience in the humanities? Thanks to a generous grant from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, The Humanities Edge is offering several paid internships and fellowships specially designed for MDC and FIU students majoring in the humanities. Interested in working at a prominent museum like the Wolfsonian, MOAD, or PAMM? Perhaps you would like to assist a professor with her research or gain skills in digital humanities?
